2012 WOLFoundation Essay Competition

WOLFoundation is calling for the best non-technical, English language writing on any subject related to environmental issues
The winning entry will receive a cash prize of $1,500. A further $500 will be awarded to the second placed entry.
Deadline for submissions is 30th September, 2012.
The shortlisted entries will be published as a book of collected essays.

What the organizers want to see:
The judging process will reward two main features in the submissions received: fresh thinking and a clear, compelling writing style. They are looking for entries that everyone will want to read.
No viewpoint restrictions
Every kind of view is welcome and encouraged. Particularly entries that address all perspectives – whether for or against any particular stance. Do not fall into the temptation of exploring tired and hashed out ideas.
Fact or fiction?
Entries should be written in prose in the English language. You are welcome to submit essays or short stories, factual commentary or fiction. Every writing style you choose to communicate your ideas will be accepted as long as it is compelling.
Who is eligible?
Everyone is eligible. Each person may submit up to three entries.
What to submit
Universally-themed, readable and non-technical essays. No footnotes or citations are allowed.
Essays must be 2,000 words or less.
Previously published essays can be submitted provided you have the necessary permissions to re-publish.
What if English is not my first language!
Relax. The judges are mainly after clearly presented ideas not language perfection. But if you make it to the finals, the (essay) language will be edited.
When to submit
Submissions for the 2012 competition should be submitted by email at submissions@wolfoundation.org no later than September 30th, 2012.
